“Godfather”, forerunner and trigger to many vocations, Dee Nasty is unavoidable in the history of French Hip Hop.
At first a Funk and Soul music fan, Dee Nasty gets in contact with Hip-Hop culture for the first time in 1979 in the USA. Little by little, he gives up guitar to start fiddling with vinyls and editing tapes. He also gets himself busy with promoting the Hip-Hop movement in Paris: in the mid 80’s he organizes (together with the magazine Actuel and Radio Nova) and is the DJ for the now mythic parties Chez Roger Boîte Funk at the Globo in Paris where he invites Public Enemy for their first French gig and Afrika Bambataa.
As a complete DJ, Dee Nasty is also popular on the air with the Deenastyle on Radio Nova during which he invites young passionate to come to open mic sessions: these will be the first live radio experience for NTM, MC SOLAAR, ASSASSIN, MINISTÈRE A.M.E.R amongst many others.
In the meantime, he is on stage as first part of Parisian gigs for American hip hop legends like Public Enemy, Trouble Funk, Ice T, Spoonie G, Cash Money, Bambaata & the Soul Sonic Force, and also George Clinton and Maceo Parker with whom he experiments in a live stage collaboration. He continued these experiment with live musicians like Cachaito Lopez bass player of Buena Vista Social Club, during his world tour in 2000-2001.
Not only a DJ, Dee Nasty is also a producer: in 1984, he made the first French Rap album Panam’city Rappin. Along the years, he produced many remixes (for Rita Mitsouko, Cheb Khaled, Beastie Boys, Rufus Thomas…), LP’s and compilations. He has 4 albums out by now and is preparing a 5th one (out beginning 2005) on his own label Disques Pirates.
